Our Neighborhoods Loch Andrews

Community By Megan Jacobo, Reporter Thursday, November 5, 2020

History

Loch Andrews is a small community in the heart of Miami Lakes with just 98 townhomes; 77 have water views.

The Graham Companies developed the residential neighborhood in 1975 and named it for the historic St. Andrew’s golf course in Scotland.

It is shaped like a trapezoid, bordered by Fairway Drive on the south and encircled by Bedlington Road.

Loch Andrews is built around a lake, and some homes on the north side enjoy views of the Senator Course at Don Shula’s Golf Club.

Amenities

Homes typically have two bedrooms and two bathrooms; some have three bedrooms. There is parking directly in front of each residence.

The community has cheerful yellow and white awnings.

There are several residential developments in the area and there are always people walking along the sidewalks and exercising their dogs.

Nearby schools include Miami Lakes K-8 CenterMiami Lakes Middle School and Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School.

Optimist Park is a short distance away.

   Who lives there?

Some residents have downsized, some are empty nesters and there are young families who have recently moved in, said Fina Finan, president of the homeowner’s association.

“It’s a nice mix of people. We have some renters as well,” Finan said.

Nancy Rogers, who chairs the Miami Lakes Public Safety Committee, has lived in the Loch Andrews community for 43 years.

“I’m still here, the original owner, enjoying the lush greenery overlooking the men’s and ladies’ 9th tees on the golf course,” said Rogers. “I have great neighbors. We look out for one another and for each other’s homes and property.”

Realtor Lynn Matos, who is with RE/MAX Unique Realty, called Loch Andrews “a great townhome community within walking distance to Main Street and the Cypress Village Shopping Center.

“Many of the units are lake-front and are in close proximity to the golf course,” Matos said.

What does it cost?

Currently there are no homes for sale.

In January, a two-bedroom, two bath home sold for $382,500.

Each property owner pays a yearly HOA fee.

Dry lots pay $900 and lakeside homes pay $950, according to Finan.

The fee covers the costs of perimeter landscaping, road repairs and streetlights.
