An abandoned kitten that was near death seven years ago is a constant source of fun for Ruby Holihan of Miami Lakes.
“She’s a loyal companion,” Holihan said of the pet that she brought back to health.
Named Joy, the 13-pound black domestic shorthair with white whiskers and tuxedo markings grew into the roles of working cat, watch cat and escort, Holihan said.
Joy keeps the screened in porch of their home critter free, and has presented to Holihan lizards, geckoes, tiny frogs, bugs, worms and a black snake.
The feline with two white boots then accompanies her human to the door to watch as the trespasser is set free.
If a worker is around, Joy keeps her green eyes on them until they are gone, Holihan said.
And as an escort, Joy is always at Holihan’s side, and anticipates which room her mistress will walk into and runs ahead.
“She is truly a survivor, and a joy for me,” Holihan said.
