The Hertz family of Pembroke Pines -- Joshua Hertz; daughter Abbey; wife Ana Hertz; daughter Emmy and son Zachary -- traveled to Hawai’i this summer to celebrate Joshua Hertz’s 50th birthday.
The family’s itinerary included a visit to Pearl Harbor on the island of Oah’u on July 18. It is the site of Japan’s surprise attack on the military base on December 7, 1941, which prompted America’s entry into World War II.
“We went to Pearl Harbor to pay our respects,” Hertz, an attorney in Miami Lakes, said in an email. “The tour was very somber and sad, but I wanted to teach my children that freedom is never free. A history lesson that we should never forget.”
