Miami Dade Fire-Rescue is offering mini-HELP Courses in Optimist Park and Royal Oaks Park in Miami Lakes during May and June.
Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School’s Trojan Marching Band will perform during the 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. sessions, when the general public and youth athletic coaches are invited to learn about cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR.
The band may perform hits like the Bee Gees’ ‘Stayin’ Alive,’ the ear worm ‘Baby Shark” or other tunes that volunteers are taught to hum to themselves to keep a good beat while trying to restart someone’s heart.
The agency will set up tents at the parks to raise awareness about CPR and teach Health Emergency Life Protection skills such as hands-only CPR.
The goal is to get people to sign up for the free course offered each month in town and elsewhere in the county, the agency said.
The longer course will include instruction in pediatric and adult hands-only CPR, early stroke recognition, stopping the bleed and recognizing blocked airways.
The park events will all be on Saturdays, May 11 and June 1 at Optimist Park, May 25 at Royal Oaks Park.
