Susanna Inguanzo, an 8th-grade student at Bob Graham Education Center (BGEC), was selected as the winner of the North Region of the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair’s Walter B. Arnold Youth Hall of Fame Community Service Award.
The award recognizes noteworthy youth achievement for private and public middle and high school students from Miami-Dade County from schools in the South, Central and North Regions who provide service to their community and/or school. The Youth Hall of Fame was created to commemorate those students whose unselfish commitment of time and energy have impacted others in a beneficial way.
Inguanzo was selected as the North Region winner for her efforts in volunteering with Camillus House. While on a school field trip to the facility, she realized there was a need in the community to understand and help the homeless. Working with other BGEC students, they formulated a proposal to present to the Miami Lakes Town Council to install five Feed the Homeless Meters throughout the town to raise funds to assist homeless organizations.
In addition to the homeless meter project, Inguanzo also participated in food and clothing drives for Camillus House and volunteered in their library. Along with the winners of the other regions. Inguanzo was recognized as an awards ceremony on May 22 and presented with a plaque and $100 check.
