Back by popular demand is the Great Miami Lakes Historical Scavenger Hunt!

This year the hunt will take place on Saturday, March 8, in the parking lot behind Shula's Hotel on Main Street in Miami Lakes from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Participants will have a map with riddles and clues which they will have to solve. The first participant to finish by turning in a completed map, stamped from each station, will receive a grand prize. Participants must register prior to the event. For further details, clues and how to register visit www.mlhistoryhunt.com.

In March 2013, over 200 students and their families from Miami Lakes and surrounding areas as far as Doral and Miramar attended the Great Miami Lakes Historical Scavenger Hunt.

With an ear open to the comments and suggestions of participating families, Katherine Duarte, the Girl Scout Cadette who created the event last year as part of a girl scout project has once again been at work to improve the event for more interactive participation.

"In order to allow other residents to participate, not just students, I came up with three new categories for this year. Individuals, which would be middle and high school students, groups and families, and senior citizens," said Duarte.

There will be more prizes raffled and many more surprises. Duarte requests that all participants wear white and black to represent the dairy history of Miami Lakes, or light blue to represent the many lakes in the community. The hunt is free for all members of the community though participant slots are limited.
