National Hispanic Heritage Month is from Sept. 15 - Oct. 15, when the contributions of Americans of Latin descent are celebrated, and that includes food. What is your favorite cuisine?
Mario Mujica, Unincorporated Miami-Dade County, mortgage originator.
“Carne con papas,” Mario Mujica said. “It’s an old-fashioned Cuban dish, like beef stew. Before my mother died, she used to make it. It’s my favorite dish.”
Steve Salisbury, New York, Retired.
“I’m from upstate New York, and my favorite food is Mexican cuisine,” Steve Salisbury said. “I enjoy fajitas and El Pollo Loco’s children’s dinner."
Florence Sordo-Ramos, Miami Lakes, Retired Secretary.
“I enjoy yellow rice and black beans,” Florence Sordo-Ramos said. “But I like to eat them separately for a better taste. I also enjoy yuca con mojo.”
Alejandra Castro, Miami Lakes, owner, Miami Beauty Lovers
“My favorite Latin food is Peruvian,” said Alejandra Castro. “I like it because it has variety, and we can enjoy it as a family, from a seafood ceviche to a sautéed tenderloin. [The] flavors are exquisite and above all, exotic."
Paula Gonzalez, Hialeah, director of clinical services, KidSpace Therapy Center, LLC
“Not only do I love [churros] and they are extremely addicting and delicious but most importantly, when [I was] growing up my grandmother, who was born in Spain, made the best churros in town,” Paula Gonzalez said. “This was a normal dish that she made with much love for the entire family. I have tried churros from many different countries but I must say there is something special about the ones that my grandmother used to make.”
Mario Mujica, Steve Salisbury and Florence Sordo-Ramos were photographed by Reporter David L. Snelling; Alejandra Castro and Paula Gonzalez sent us their photos. We thank you all!
