Vista Memorial Gardens holds Memorial Day flag planting event

Over 200 people attended a Memorial Day event held by Vista Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Miami Lakes. Flags were placed in the ground during the ceremony by the  Boy Scout, Cub Pack and Venturing Crew groups that attended. 

Boy Scout Troops 247, 306, 566, 584, and Boy Scouts Cub Packs 247 and 484 as well as Venturing Crew 915 assisted in the ceremony for a total of nearly 100 between them, parents and leaders.  

Special thanks to Captain Todd W. Lutes, Commander at U.S. Coast Guard Air Base in Miami at Opa Locka, Bugler Mallory Knabb from Bugler Across America, Hialeah Miami Lakes JROTC Cadets led by SFC Quinones, and Gary Cardenas, Post Commander, and his fellow veterans of the American Legion Post 144.  

Mayor Manny Cid along with other council members, attended the event and heard some words from Rev. Luis Garcia. The inaugural event was a success and plans are made to commemorate the holiday every year.
