Realtor Magaly Rubio is a broker associate at Coldwell Banker Realty and has more than 30 years’ experience in the industry. She is also currently vice president of the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce and president of The Zonta Club of Miami Lakes.
Q: Where are you from and what is your background?
A: I’m from Cuba. I moved to the United States in the early 1960’s. I’ve lived in Miami Lakes for 50 years now and have two children.
Q: What do you like most about Miami Lakes?
A: The community and the friendships I’ve been able to build with all my years here. It’s home for me.
Q: What do you dislike about the town?
A: I wish we had less blasting. I wish something could be done about the blasting problem. It needs to be addressed by our elected officials.
Q: What are the demands and responsibilities of your current positions and what do you hope to accomplish?
A: As a broker associate, I do sales and leasing. I help people get into homes and commercial properties. At the Chamber, we help the chamber grow and help our members. We all benefit from the close relationships we have and by recommending each other. We only outsource when there is no local option. And at the Zonta Club, we advocate for women. We organize fundraisers and recruit new members. We also raise funds to help other organizations.
Q: What is your biggest accomplishment, in your personal life or career?
A: God first. I put my family above and beyond everything else. Raising my kids to be good citizens the way I was taught by my parents.
Q: What is your fantasy career?
A: It wouldn’t be a job. It would be to be closer to my family and friends and spend more time with those I love.
Q: What books are you reading, and are there any podcasts that you’re listening to?
A: I am reading the Bible and sometimes I re-read old books like “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” by Mitch Albom or “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari: A Fable About Fulfilling Your Dreams & Reaching Your Destiny,” by Robin Sharma. I’m currently reading “Rigged: How the Media, Big Tech, and the Democrats Seized Our Elections,” by Mollie Hemingway.
Q: What have you binge-watched on TV?
A: I am not very fond of TV. I do watch the news to keep up with what’s happening in the world.
Q: Where did you last travel to on a vacation?
A: The last vacation I took was to Europe in 2019. I went to several cities. My 2020 vacation was canceled but I have plans to go to New York soon.
