Young artists display their Main Street banners

On May 15, a special exhibit was held on Main Street for the winners of the 6th annual Main Street Banner Art Contest.
In attendance were students and their families as well as Miami Lakes Middle School principal Maria Medina and art teachers Alejandro Rodriguez (Miami Lakes Middle School) and Gary Aneuz (Miami Lakes K-8 Center as the banners were unveiled on the light poles along Main Street.
This year’s theme was “Best Day Ever.” The artwork selected showcased the many different activities and life events that made up the “Best Day Ever” for the students. From special days with friends, to family celebrations to participating in community events, the young students put their artistic talents on their creative artworks.
Overall winners from grades K-5 were Delilah Caceres, Jonathan Cid, Gabriel Diaz, Allison Estelles, Isabella Garcia, Armanda Martinez, Anabel Ramirez, Christopher Rodriguez, Elizabeth Grace Roque and Valerie Valdes.
Overall winners from grades 6-8 were Anabelle Calles, Aniya Forbes, Amber Gavcie, Helen Gomez, Jadel Guerrero, Layla Valenzuela, Ce’Mone Jose, Camyr Maddy, Salma Petron and Kamryn Turner.
Overall high school winners were Kylile Caplin, Juliet Feros, Josh Matias, Nicole Perez, Valentina Serrano and Raiza Torres.
The showcase evening was made possible by the Main Street Merchants and The Graham Companies.
Over 220 students submitted artwork from Miami Lakes are schools including Miami Lakes K-8 Center, Bob Graham Education Center, Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School, Miami Lakes Middle School, Hialeah Miami Lakes Senior High and Miami Lakes Educational Center.
The 26 students’ artworks will be on display along Main Street through the summer.
