On May 4, Mater Lakes Academy (MLA) had 22 seniors graduate from Miami Dade College (MDC). They graduated with their Associate of Arts Degree as a senior in high school. Mater Lakes Academy’s Portuguese teacher and club sponsor Ana Paula Garcia held her first induction ceremony for the Portuguese Honor Societyon April 30. There was a total of 10 students inducted and all of them will be walking graduation with a yellow and green cord as they represent this accomplishment. Bob Graham Education Center congratulated Eva Oliveras who was a finalist in this year's Do the Write Thing Challenge and her teacher Jacqueline Arrojo-Hernandez. Oliveras, her parents and teacher attended the awards ceremony on May 22. Miami Lakes K-8 Center's Future Educators of America (FEA) held a donation drive in April to benefit The Lotus House which is a shelter for homeless women and their children. The Lotus House provides support, education, tools and resources that empower women to improve their lives.
