Miami Lakes K-8 Center's Salsa team has had the opportunity to perform at Walt Disney World's Downtown Disney, however for the school's chorus group, this was a premiere performance. Teacher Sara Cino led her students throughout their performance which quickly had the audience singing along. The Miami Lakes K-8 Center chorus group was invited back by Disney to perform next year.
  The Main Street Players awarded three scholarships on Sunday, May 18, to local high school seniors involved in the performing arts. The Main Street Players Board of Directors reviewed their applications and selected the top three students recommended by their teachers  who best demonstrated and exemplified the true ideals of the performing arts.   Miami Lakes resident Adriana Schwinghammer, a long time Miami Lakes K-8 Center volunteer, and mother of three, was named Outstanding Volunteer of the Year by the Miami-Dade County Public School System. The award was announced on May 9 at the end of the year awards luncheon at Jungle Island, and was presented by School Board members and the Superintendent.
