Scouts team up to retire flags in Miami Lakes ceremony

Boy Scout Troop 566 and Sea Scout Ship 144 retired more than 60 American flags and a state of Florida flag in a ceremony held Oct. 12 in front of Miami Lakes Town Hall, at 6601 Main St. Earlier this year, Troop 566 created a drop box in the government center for residents to deposit old, torn or discolored flags.      Dade Christian student Jason Smith, 12, competed in the throwing events at the 2021 USATF National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships this past summer at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. Jason was 42nd in the shot put among 58 finishers in the age 11-12 group and 47th out of 61 finishers in the javelin.
