The Florida Power & Light Company is accepting applications for its $20,000 robotics scholarship for a high school senior.

The utility’s goal is to empower young minds and cultivate future leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), according to a media release.

A talented student who has a passion and potential in robotics is sought for the award.

The scholarship will support a student who pursues a STEM-related field at an accredited college or university, the company said.

The money will hopefully allow the winner to spend more time studying in college and less time at a job while in school.

Eligible applicants attend public and private high schools in an FPL service area and have two or more years’ experience in a FIRST Tech Challenge or FIRST Robotics Competition.

The student must also have a minimum weighted grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent, and plan to attend college full-time.

The application period is from March 18 - May 15.
