Bob Graham Education Center’s (BGEC) Civic Engagement Academy (CEA) team participated in the “We the People” competition, securing the first place win and title of State Champions. Among five schools representing the county, and then among 10 total schools in the state, BGEC came out on top.

Following this win, BGEC’s CEA students and teachers will be moving on to compete at the “We The People” National Invitational in Washington, DC in April. As first-time participants in 2014, BGEC’s CEA won the District competition and placed third at the state level in Mock Trial. They also won the District and State competition in Project citizen and presented their civic project in Washington D.C. This was the school’s first time participating in the “We The People” competition.

The students perfected their arguments and kept up-to-date on current issues to present a winning project under the direction of CEA teachers Ingy Cruz and Jackie Hernandez.

All members of the community are invited to donate to the school’s CEA program to fund students to attend the national competition. Checks can be made payable to The Bobcat Law Society and mailed to 8181 N.W. 154 Street, Suite #280 Miami Lakes Florida, 33016.
