On September 24, Dr. Ramon Rodriguez was honored as Monsignor Edward Pace High School’s 2014 Teacher of the Year following the Opening of School Mass.

Rodriguez, who works as a guidance counselor and who taught AP Psychology last year, was announced as the award’s recipient by principal Ana Garcia in front of the entire Pace student body, faculty, and staff.

Rodriguez started teaching at Pace in 2004 and has taught psychology, sociology, life management, and computers since then. He has also moderated the classes of 2008 and 2014 and started the Culinary Club in 2005. He is currently the guidance counselor for the Class of 2017, a co-teacher for the Leadership class, and a moderator for Pace’s sophomore retreat Antioch and SGA.

The Teacher of the Year is selected by a committee of past Teachers of the Year, who select from a list of nominees who have taught five or more years at Pace and who have not already won the award. The winner is chosen based on his or her excellence in teaching and their participation in extracurricular activities.

“I feel very humbled by this award,” said Rodriguez. “I would not want to work anywhere else in the world other than Pace. I love helping out students and I really see my work here at Pace as a ministry to serve our students and the rest of our Pace community.”
