Goleman hosts first North Region High School Mock Trial competition

Barbara Goleman Senior High School and its Law Honor Society hosted the Miami Lakes Bar Association’s first North Region Mock Trial Competition for high school students on Jan. 21, with support from prominent attorneys in town who presided as judges.
Teams from Mater Lakes Academy, Hialeah Gardens High School, Hialeah Senior High School, and Goleman faced off in Goleman’s professional courtrooms.
District 4 School Board Member Roberto Alonso opened the event. Attorneys who served as judges were Miami Lakes Mayor Josh Dieguez; Miami Lakes Councilman Steven Herzberg and Vice Mayor Bryan Morera, and Lorenzo Cobiella, who is the deputy town attorney, said Ana Soto-Gonzalez, Goleman’s Law Honor Society Sponsor.
Vida Custom Designs created the trophy that Town Councilman Alex Sanchez paid for.
Hialeah Gardens High School’s Junior Varsity team took it home, Miami Lakes Bar Association President Melissa Alvarez announced.
Outgoing Miami Lakes Bar Association President Stephanie Cruz provided lunch for the more than 80 competitors.
