HML's Damian Ortega plays in Geico High School series

Hialeah Miami Lakes High student-athlete Damian Ortega was selected to take part in the inaugural Geico High School Baseball Series in Chicago where he competed with the team from Miami.
The tournament was played July 8-11 at Curtis Granderson Stadium at the University of Illinois-Chicago.
Ortega’s team lost to New York in a pool play to determine the competitors for the championship game.
The contest featured four teams that played a total of eight games over a four-day period.
The teams were comprised of high school players from Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and New York City selected by the high school governing body from each city.
Ortega was placed on a talented roster that included Southwest High senior shortstop Eddie Sierra, Westland senior pitcher Carlos Marrero, Hialeah senior pitcher Erick Andujar, Coral Gables senior pitcher Manny Jackson and Sunset senior pitcher Frank Elissalt.
The group was named to the Miami Herald All-Dade Teams for the 2019 season.
