HML's Jose Bueno named North Region Principal of the Year

Education Monday, December 23, 2013

Hialeah Miami Lakes (HML) principal Jose Bueno has been chosen as Miami-Dade County Public Schools' North Region Principal of the Year. Bueno is not new to the educational spotlight, having sky-rocketed school grades during his career as principal.

Bueno began his teaching career in 1993 at Norland Middle School where he taught 6th grade geography and then went to Filer Middle School where he taught civics. In 1997 Bueno was promoted to assistant principal of Curriculum at Citrus Grove Middle School and by 2003, he had become principal of Jose Marti Middle School.

It was at Jose Marti where Bueno began his letter grade-raising streak. In three short years, Bueno raised the school grade at Jose Marti from a "C" to an "A". He then became the founding principal of Country Club Middle School where once again he championed the school from a "D" to an "A" during the 2007-2008 school year, an accomplishment only completed by three other schools.

In 2010, Bueno took over a struggling HML and once again raised the school grade from a "D" to a "B" with hopeful expectations that this years' school grade, due to be released at the end of December, with be an "A".

Assistant principal Cynthia Prado recently spoke with the Principal of the Year committee and said "Mr. Bueno is truly a transformational principal because only someone with such incredible insight and vision can improve the grade of not just one school but of three!"

HML is located at 7977 West 12 Avenue in Hialeah. For more information on the school, call 305-823-1330.
