Lawton Chiles Middle student wins honorable mention for art

     In April, Solange Perez was an eighth-grade student at Lawton Chiles Middle School when she won Honorable Mention in the Blue Ribbon Poster Contest.

      The art competition was hosted by Amigos for Kids at the art gallery at the Hialeah campus of Miami Dade College.

     The winning posters were displayed at an awards ceremony on April 22 and the young artists, families and staff members attended the event. 

     The students’ artwork was then presented on the college campus for a week in April, the middle school said.

     Solange’s work has a quote, “She fell down the stairs.”  

     It shows a young girl with a black eye and an adult holding the child’s shoulder.

     It also says, ‘There’s no excuse for child abuse.’
