The Miami-Dade County School Board unanimously approved four items proposed by Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman recognizing the Florida middle-school winner of the SIFMA Foundation’s InvestWrite National Essay Competition, as well as the endorsement of Hispanic Heritage Month, “Walk-to-School” Day, and “Ethical Governance Day.”
“I would like to congratulate Sofia Isabel Diaz of Miami Lakes K-8 Center for her outstanding first-place win in the SIFMA Foundation’s essay challenge,” said Hantman. “In addition, I am proud to be able to bring forth initiatives that promote student safety, raise their consciousness and celebrate the histories and cultures of Hispanics around South Florida.”
The Board voted to endorse Wednesday, October 8 as International “Walk to School Day;” Monday, September 15 to Wednesday, October 15 as "Hispanic Heritage Month" in Miami-Dade County Public Schools; and Wednesday, October 29 as “Ethical Governance Day 2014” in Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
