The Miami-Dade School Board unanimously approved three items proposed by School Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman recognizing high school graduates who attained a high level of competency in a world language, endorsed October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month throughout the district, and proclaimed October 19-25, 2015 as National Teen Driver Safety Week.
“The purpose of the Seal of Biliteracy is to encourage students to study languages and provide employers with a method of identifying an individual who has language and biliteracy skills, and promote world language instruction in public schools,” said Hantman. “Also, this month is dedicated to highlighting the importance of early detection of breast cancer – the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in American women, as well as the time we encourage high school teenagers to change risky driving behaviors in hopes of saving lives across the country.”
The School Board also voted to proclaim October 19-25, 2015 as National Teen Driver Safety Week.
