The new school year for 2016-2017 is offering a host of new and bold programs aimed at building on the Miami-Dade Schools district’s goal of providing classroom innovation, academic rigor, and increased student access, as well as increased efficiencies in operations.
School Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho unveiled the district’s new program at a recent School Board meeting.
“The rollout of the new programs for the 2016-2017 school year continues our legacy of providing students with comprehensive, robust and innovative academic course offerings, preparing them for classroom and career success,” said Carvalho. “This will be another exciting and exceptional year of academic enrichment and exploration that will inspire our students, teachers, and parents.”
Fifty-nine new choice/magnet programs were created for 2016-2017, the most ever in one year, including a Cybersecurity program at Barbara Goleman and a Forensic Science program at Country Club Middle School.
The new courses bring a total of choice programs to nearly 600.
New initiatives for Miami-Dade County Public Schools include Digital Convergence, Digital Convergence ClassFlow Application, Digital Citizenship, Diploma Pathways, Pathways to Biliteracy, Second Language Immersion, the Harmony Project: A Blueprint for Music Education, Performing Arts Panther Partnership, M-DCPS Teacher LEADership Academy, Parents Helping Parents, Early Childhood Jumpstart, iTransition, Summer Youth Internship Program, G.R.E.A.T.
