     The Miami-Dade County Library branch in Miami Lakes is offering classes.   Most events require preregistration and popular courses may fill up early. Sign up in advance to avoid being shut out of classes.

Tai Chi for Beginners Fri., May 3, 17  11 a.m. – Noon Practice this ancient tradition and learn gentle movements to increase flexibility and balance. Led by library staff. Ages 18+

Homework Help & Tutoring Sat, May 4, 11, 18 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Certified teachers tutor students in reading, math and science for one-hour sessions. For grades K-12. Free and funded in part by The Children’s Trust. For information contact tutoring@mdpls.org or 305-375-1413. www.mdpls.org/tutor.

Free Comic Book Day Sat., May 4 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.  Pick up a free comic book, browse the library’s collection that are free to borrow with a library card. Star Wars STEAM Activities - May the 4th be with You Sat., May 4  4 p.m. - 5 p.m.  Join the South Florida Chamber Ensemble while wearing your favorite Star Wars costume. Learn about Isaac Newton’s laws of motion using sports equipment and explore potential and kinetic energy with catapults and bullseye targets. Ages 6 - 18

Chess Club for Adults Tues., May 7, 21  6 p.m. - 7 p.m. Hone your skills or have fun while playing chess. Ages 18+

Upcycle Art for Teens - Teen Library Advisory Board  Wed., May 8  4 p.m. - 5 p.m.  Create personalized gifts using recycled glass jars, vases and cups. Bring something from home to paint or use materials provided, while supplies last. Made possible by the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board.  Ages 12 - 18.

Junior Environmental Rangers Club  Sat., May 11  2 p.m. - 3 p.m.  Learn about ecosystems in Everglades National Park, Big Cypress Preserve and Biscayne National Park. Earn a park badge. Presented by Sports Konnect. Ages 3 - 10.

Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing for Toddlers en dos idiomas  Tues., May 14  11 a.m. – Noon  Library staff present stories, songs and activities in English and Spanish for toddlers and caregivers.

Chess Club  Tues., May 14  6 p.m. – 7 p.m. Fun, casual game time. Ages 8 – 18.

Dragon’s Egg Craft - Teen Library Advisory Board Wed., May 15  4 p.m. - 5 p.m.  Create your own dragon egg.  Ages 13 - 19

Talk Crafty to Me!  Thurs., May 16  11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  Make cool crafts and meet other creatives. Materials provided.  Ages 19+

Create a Tactile Art Piece for Spring - Celebrate Older Americans Month  Sat., May 18  4 p.m. - 5 p.m.  Make a spring-themed art design using mixed media techniques during this hands-on tactile art class led by a teacher for people with low vision. Materials provided.  Ages 55+

Celebrate Dinosaur Day  Tue, May 21  4 p.m. - 5 p.m. Calling all Dinosaur enthusiasts! Make dino crafts and talk about your favorite dinosaurs. Ages 6 - 11 yrs.

Henna 101 - Celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Month  Wed., May 22  4 p.m. - 5 p.m.  Learn the history of the henna art form and practice designs using freshly made henna and henna cones. Made possible by the Town of Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board. Ages 8 - 18 yrs.
