 The Miami-Dade County Library branch in Miami Lakes is offering classes.  

     Most events require preregistration and popular courses may fill up early. Sign up in advance to avoid being shut out of classes. To check availability, call 305-822-6520, email

     The library at 6699 Windmill Gate Rd. is open Monday - Thursday, 9:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Closed Sunday.

Bridging Generations: Art & Conversation Wed., Dec. 4  4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.  Guided by a professional artist, elders and kids ages 12+ teens create paintings and connect. 

Fabric Painting Thurs., Dec.  5  11 a.m.  - 12:30 p.m. Learn techniques to transform items in your closet into works of art and paint your own canvas bag. Materials provided.  Ages 19+

Florida Licensing on Wheels (FLOW) Fri. Dec. 6 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Renew, replace or update a driver’s license, get a new ID card, renew a vehicle registration, buy a special license plate and more. Bring a car registration. Ages 19+.

Homework Help & Tutoring  Sat., Dec. 7, 14  10 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Certified teachers tutor students in reading, math and science for one-hour sessions. For grades K-12. Free and funded in part by The Children’s Trust. For information contact tutoring@mdpls.org or 305-375-1413.  www.mdpls.org/tutor.

Creative Candle Making for Teens Wed., Dec. 11  4 p.m. – 5 p.m.  Select wax color, choose a fragrance and make a candle with materials provided.  Made possible by the Miami Lakes Educational Advisory Board.

Holiday Decor with a Twist! Upcycle Art for Teens  Thurs., Dec. 12  4 p.m. - 5 p.m. Take something old and make it new for the holidays. Upcycle an old top, make a fun ugly sweater or use household items to make a stocking.  Ages 12 - 18

FDOT Palmetto Expressway Capacity Information Table Tues., Dec. 17  11 a.m. – 1 p.m.  A FDOT representative will be available to answer questions about the Palmetto Expressway Capacity Project that includes bridge connections and road widening for SR 826 and Westbound NW 103 Street/W. 49th Street. Ages 19+

Nutrition and Health Class presented by Feeding South Florida Tues., Dec. 17. 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. Learn to prepare tasty, nutritious meals and get tips on how to eat healthy while on a budget. Recipes and treats provided for the class. Ages 19+

2win! Studios presents a Pinch Pot Workshop Wed., Dec. 18 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. 2win! Studios will give a presentation on clay and pottery and show examples of ceramics. Learn how to make a pinch pot with hands and clay and then decorate it.  Made possible by the Town of Miami Lakes Educational Advisory Board. Ages 13 – 18

Talk Crafty to Me!  Thurs., Dec. 19. 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  Make crafts with other creatives. Ages 19+

Wonderful Winter Gift Bags Thurs., Dec 19, 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. Craft your very own Wonderful Winter Gift Bag with your personal touch and fun designs, bling, colors and festive decorations, to give or to keep. Ages 6+

Tai Chi for Beginners  Fri., Dec. 20   11 a.m. – Noon  Led by a library staffer, this class of gentle and graceful movements is designed to improve balance, coordination, focus and mental health. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.  Ages 19+
