 The Miami-Dade County Library branch in Miami Lakes is offering classes.  

     Most events require preregistration and popular courses may fill up early. Sign up in advance to avoid being shut out of classes.

     The library at 6699 Windmill Gate Rd. is open Monday - Thursday, 9:30 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m., and closed Sunday.

Homework Help & Tutoring  Sat., Oct. 4, 11, 18   10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

STEM Saturday   Sat., Oct. 4   2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Do a STEM activity with FIU undergraduate and medical students. Materials provided. Made possible by the Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELP.   Ages 5 – 15

Chess Free Play: Think, Move, Play  Tues., Oct. 7   6 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Whether a beginner or experienced, test your skills in a friendly game of chess.  Ages 8+

Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing for Toddlers  Wed., Oct. 8  11 a.m. – 12 p.m. 

Toddlers and caregivers will hear stories, sing songs and enjoy activities.  Ages 18 mos. – 3

Sound of Strings: Teen Library Advisory Committee  Wed., Oct. 8  4 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Guitarist Francisco Valle will play electric guitar, mandolin, a tres. Attendees get a hands-on demonstration of stringed instruments. Ages 13 - 19

Salsa for Beginners  Thurs., Oct. 9  4 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Professional dancer and award-winning performer Suzy Q will teach students how to move and groove. Ages 12+

Florida Licensing on Wheels (FLOW)  Fri., Oct. 10   10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Renew, replace or update a driver’s license, get a new ID card, renew a vehicle registration, buy a special license plate and more. Bring a car registration.  Ages 18+

Tai Chi for Beginners  Fri., Oct. 10, 17  11 a.m. – Noon

Led by a library staffer, this class of gentle and graceful movements is designed to improve balance, coordination, focus and mental health. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.  Ages 19+

Read Along, Sing a Song: “Opera Cat,” Presented by Florida Grand Opera   Sat., Oct. 11   3 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Florida Grand Opera’s bite-size opera experience, with interactive story time, live aria singing and a fun craft to take home.  Ages 10 or younger.

DIY Floral Arrangement  Tues., Oct. 14  6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Create a fresh floral arrangement for your home or to give away. Materials provided.  Ages 18+

Paint Pour Skulls – Teen Library Advisory Committee  Wed., Oct. 15  4 p.m – 5 p.m.

Use an acrylic paint pour technique to decorate plaster skulls. Make friends, too.  Ages 13 – 19

Talk Crafty to Me!   Thurs., Oct. 16   11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Make crafts with other creatives. Materials provided.  Ages 19+

Cake Decorating Workshop for Adults  Sat., Oct. 18  3 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Build and decorate your own vanilla cake in a workshop led by Love, Grace Sweets.  Materials, tips and a take-home are box provided. Ingredients contain gluten and dairy.  Ages 18+
