Homework Help & Tutoring  Sat, Feb. 3, 10, 17, 24  10 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Certified teachers meet students in grades K-12 for one-hour sessions for homework help and tutoring in reading, math and science. STEM Saturday Sat., Feb. 3  2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.  Enjoy a hands-on STEM activity with FIU undergraduate and medical students. Materials provided. Made possible by the Green Family Foundation NeighborhoodHELP. Ages 5 – 15.

Adult Learning Academy Basic English for Beginners  Mon., Feb. 5, 12, 26  6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.  A 10-week course for adults who do not speak any English. The semester is Jan. 8 – March 18. Certified teachers will provide English language instruction, in person, at the library. Registration is required is for all 10 weeks. Space is limited. Ages 18+.

Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing for Toddlers en dos idiomas  Tues., Feb. 6, 20  11 a.m. – Noon Library staff present stories, songs and activities in English and Spanish for toddlers and caregivers.

Afro Dance with Andres Celebrating Black Life, History and Culture Thurs., Feb. 1 11 a.m. – Noon Learn traditional dances of African origin that can be seen in Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela and Peru. Registration required, call 305-822-6520. Ages 5+

Florida Licensing on Wheels (FLOW) Fri., Feb. 2  10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Renew a driver’s license, obtain a replacement; change a name or address; get an ID card; renew a vehicle registration or purchase a specialty license plate. Registration required. Call for an appointment: 305-822-6520. Ages 18+

Chess Club Tues., Feb. 13, 27  6 p.m. – 7 p.m.  Play with other fans of the game.  Ages 8 – 18.

Wine Glass Painting Wed., Feb. 14  4 p.m. – 5 p.m.  Learn different techniques for turning any glass into a work of art. Materials provided.  Ages 19+ 

Circuitry Challenge  Presented by Frost Science  Sat. Feb. 17  3 p.m. – 4 p.m.  Learn about electrical conduction in a hands-on exploration. Learn the basics of energy and electricity. Use problem solving skills to build circuits that glow, buzz and move.  Ages 5 – 12.

Teen Library Advisory Board Introduction to Podcasting  Wed., Feb. 21  4 p.m. – 5 p.m.  Get hands-on experience setting up and running a successful podcasting program. Find out how to develop your own podcast project from concept to final product.  Ages 13+

Drumming for Everyone  Sat. Feb. 24  2 p.m. – 3 p.m.  Join the South Florida Center for Percussive Arts for a group drumming activity, perfect for all ages and abilities.  Try out instruments, learn from one another and jam out! Made possible by the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board.  All Ages.
