Miami Lakes Educational Center (MLEC) received a charitable donation from Southern Wine and Spirits of Florida on August 15.

Southern Wine and Spirits of Florida representatives Maria Gomez and Lisa Goldberg visited the school the morning the donations were dropped off.

The Southern Wine and Spirits corporation annually has staff nominate local schools and then vote on the school which will receive donations. This school year, MLEC had the pleasure of receiving the donations at a gathering including the school faculty, administration, students, Southern Wine and Spirits representatives and school board representative, Ana Lara, on behalf of School Board chair Perla Tabares Hantman.

A total of 200 backpacks filled with school supplies including pens, pencils, paper, antibacterial bottles, folders, dividers, and index cards were donated. Of the donations, 50 backpacks will be given to each grade level and the Student Government will decide how to distribute them to students.

"This is a wonderful representation of schools and community working together. This was a great donation," said school principal James Parker.

The Southern Wine and Spirits of Florida corporation greatly values the importance of community support and educational excellence. The company frequently partners with organizations to volunteer time and donate funds to the community.

"We are happy to donate to the community," said Gomez.
