Hannah Quinones-Cao, an eighth grader at Miami Lakes K-8 Center, won 1st Place in the American Chemical Society’s Illustrated Poem contest. Her original poem and art for the theme “Glaciers: Hot Topic, Cool Chemistry” “illustrated how climate change affects glaciers and the vital role chemistry plays in understanding the changes,” the school said in an email.
“Hannah combined science and storytelling in a way that was both informative and imaginative,” Digital Art Teacher Jessica Hernandez said of her student, shown above with her art. “We’re incredibly proud of her achievement.”
Hannah’s win qualifies her to compete in the society’s national contest.
