Miami Lakes K-8 Center (MLK8) says goodbye to long time Miami Lakes resident and teacher, Suzanne M. Choopani who retired this June after 35 years of service with Miami Dade County Public Schools. A former high school Spanish teacher, she began teaching in the bilingual program at Henry M. Flagler Elementary School. Shortly after receiving her Masters degree in Reading from Florida International University, she became a curriculum coordinator at both the district and region offices.
Always interested in school site positions, Choopani became an assistant principal at Brentwood Elementary and was promoted to principal of Springview Elementary in 1995. When her second child began kindergarten, she longed to be a classroom teacher again and work in her own community. She was transferred to MLK8 and primarily taught first grade for 17 years.
Reflecting on her career she said, "Teaching at MLK8 was the best decision I ever made, I have so many happy memories of working with the young students, their parents and our wonderful staff." Thank you!"
