Miami-Dade County Public School Board Chairwoman Perla Tabares Hantman recently received an Honorary Degree in Public Service from Doral College during a commencement ceremony at the Wastco Center on the campus of the University of Miami.

The Miami Lakes resident was recognized for her vision, leadership, determination and contributions to the community.

The college said Hantman has been an articulate advocate for education and how it can create positive change in the communities.

“She has championed initiatives that improve public safety, enhance educational opportunities, and promote bilingual education,” Doral College administrators said.

Hantman said she’s honored for the recognition and will continue to serve the education community.

“I am extremely honored to Doral College for conferring this honorary degree upon me,” she said. “It was an honor to have the opportunity to express my words of appreciation to the leadership of the college, faculty and students.”
