Miami-Dade School Board chairwoman Perla Tabares Hantman and Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle recently recognized Miami Lakes Educational Center student Samoa Blanchet for winning the District 4 Human Trafficking Awareness Art Contest.
The contest was sponsored by Rundle’s office and Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
Human trafficking in Florida is the illegal trade of human beings for sexual exploitation or forced labor.
Florida has the most human trafficking cases in the U.S. because of the large immigrant population, which has made it a prime environment for forced labor.
“I would like to congratulate Samoa Blanchet,” Hantman said. “I commend her on her artistic and talented artwork. It is my pleasure to congratulate and commend the winners for their outstanding safety messages.”
