Shining Scholars honor for Pace student Jaylin Simpson

Monsignor Edward Pace sophomore student Jaylin Simpson was among the winners of the Miami-Dade Mayor’s Shining Scholars for the 2018-2019 school year.

Simpson was awarded the Unstoppable Scholar Award for his work in the classroom and his community.

Along with having the discipline to attain a 4.1 grade point average at Pace, Simpson is an active change agent in his school and community. He is a leader to his peers and has inspired his family as a scholar, stellar athlete, and emerging activist.

Analyzing the issues and problems affecting young people throughout South Florida, Simpson organized a retreat and rally to end gun violence in Miami Gardens. He gained the support of his fellow students and team mates on the school’s basketball squad in order to have successful event.

Despite not having a male role model at home, Simpson stands in the gap in his community for dozens of elementary age youth. Throughout his matriculation, he has mentored and tutored students at Lake View Elementary School as a volunteer.

Simpson serves the community in multiple capacities and is a member of multiple campus organizations. After graduating high school, he will begin pursuing his bachelor’s degree as a business major, with the goal of one day leading a Fortune 500 Company.
