Three juniors from Monsignor Edward Pace High School won Aspirations in Computing Awards. The National Center for Women & Information Technology works to increase the participation of girls and women in computing. Pace students Diana Porras and Gabriela Cespedes won the organization’s 2021 South Florida Affiliate Award. Exmiralda Bazile won the Rising Star, 2021 South Florida Affiliate Award. The juniors are part of Pace’s STEM
Academy Computer Technology Program, said Surella Rodriguez, director of alumni relations for the school.
The Award for Aspirations in Computing recognizes high school students for their achievements and interests in the field. Winners of the awards receive regional and national recognition, gadget prizes and an automatic induction into the Aspirations in Computing community. Their membership provides benefits which include private invitations to virtual and in-person meetups, visibility for their technical achievements, computing outreach opportunities, hands-on activities for exploring computer science concepts and exclusive access to scholarships, internships and job opportunities, Rodriguez said.
