Eight varsity sports teams at St. Thomas University were named Scholar-Teams by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) for the 2015-16 college academic year.
The announcement was made last month during the NAIA summer meeting in Kansas City, Missouri, where the Bobcats’ men’s cross country and men’s golf teams earned the highest average GPA (3.42).
St. Thomas’ volleyball team finished second with a 3.40 GPA followed by the women’s soccer team (3.29 GPA), the softball team (3.21 GPA) men’s tennis (3.19 GPA), men’s soccer (3.18 GPA) and women’s cross country (3.08).
For a team to qualify for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must record a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale as defined by the institution.
