Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) received 42 awards from the Magnet Schools of America (MSA) for the 2016-2017 award cycle. For the sixth year in a row, M-DCPS out-performed all other school districts nationwide.

MSA, a national organization representing over 4,000 magnet schools and programs, annually recognizes magnet schools and programs for their commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful diversity efforts, specialized teaching staffs, and parent/community involvement.

Of the 89 schools across the United States that received the coveted Magnet School of Excellence Merit Award, 20 are part of Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Additionally, Miami-Dade County magnet schools received 22 of 156 Magnet School of Distinction Merit Awards. Schools earning the MSA Merit Award, whether Distinction or Excellence, rank within the top five percent of all magnet schools in the nation. Schools awarded the Magnet School of Excellence Merit Award not only excel in all areas measured, but serve as National Exemplary Magnet School Models.

Miami-Dade County’s award-winning public magnet schools in Miami Lakes and surrounding areas were Hialeah Miami Lakes Senior High School for its Legal Studies, iPrep Academy, and Digital Media & Technology magnet programs; Jose Marti MAST 6-12 Academy for Math & Science Technology and Life Science magnet programs; and Miami Lakes Educational Center for its Career Themed Multi-Magnet program, all of which received a School of Excellence distinction.
