Vice Mayor Tony Fernandez was Principal for a Day at Miami Lakes Middle School on Dec. 8.

Fernandez joined Principal Maria Medina who gave him a tour of the school where 960 students are enrolled in sixth through eighth grades.

Fernandez learned about the civics course and new culinary program that are taught at the campus at 6425 Miami Lakeway North.

He also had an opportunity to discuss ways the town could work with the school, school safety initiatives and facilities.

“The whole day was informative and interactive,” Fernandez said. “Ms. Medina, along with her wonderful staff and amazing students, extended a warm welcome.”
