Cultural Affairs Committee changes leadership

     Neill D. Robinson, the longtime chair of the Miami Lakes Cultural Affairs Committee, resigned from the volunteer position in December, citing business opportunities that would take time away from the group.      The town announced new leadership for the committee.      The chair is Felicia Salazar; Vice Chair is Madeline Santana and Secretary is Trinette Zarran.

     High school seniors may apply for Miami Lakes Future Leaders Scholarships.      Two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors who live in town.      The deadline to apply is April 7.       The application package should include an essay of up to 750 words that describes how the student hopes to make the world a better place.      ...

Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Doral, awarded the Congressional Veteran Commendation to Miami Lakes veterans Christopher Valdes, retired Chief Petty Officer with the U.S. Coast Guard, and Hector Garcia Jr., retired Lt.
