The Town of Miami Lakes announced that it has received the distinction of Tree City USA for the 15th year in a row.
The town also received the Tree City USA Growth Award.
This is the 13th year Miami Lakes has received the Growth Award, according to a media statement from the town.
Both designations are awarded through the Arbor Day Foundation and recognize cities and towns that demonstrate good tree stewardship.
Cities and towns must meet four standards to receive the Tree City USA distinction.
Those distinctions are having a professional arborist, forester or a tree board; a tree care ordinance; a community budget with at least $2 per capita for trees and an Arbor Day observance or proclamation.
Municipalities are eligible for The Tree City USA Growth Award if they demonstrate a higher level of tree care and community engagement during the calendar year, according to the Arbor Day website.
