Council approves contract for new manager Pidermann

The Town of Miami Lakes approved a contract with its new town manager, Edward Pidermann, a four-year agreement which includes a $178,000 annual salary to run the day-to-day operations.
Pidermann starts his new job on Monday, February 4.
During a special meeting, Miami Lakes’ town council also approved a contract with outgoing Town Manager Alex Rey to assist with the transition stage as a consultant before Pidermann’s term officially commences.
According to Pidermann’s agreement, he will earn $18,000 less than Rey and has a severance package which is four weeks shorter than Rey’s deal. Pidermann won’t earn any bonuses for his job performance.
Pidermann also agreed to waive $2,5000 towards his deferred compensation plan and drive around town at least two times per week with a $650 car allowance.
Pidermann will pursue his International City Managers Association or ICMA Certification, which was the chief requirement for the town manager selection committee when candidates submitted their job applications and resumes.
Furthermore, Pidermann’s contract includes not taking any money from the sick days he doesn’t use.
“The sick days will be accrued but he doesn’t get the cash,” said Town Attorney Raul Gastesi.
Mayor Manny Cid said Pidermann’s contract is good for Miami Lakes.
“It’s a good agreement for the Town of Miami Lakes,” he said. “It’s a very good contract and I encourage everyone to support it.”
Council members approved a modification agreement with Rey, who submitted his resignation letter to be effective at the end of March.
However, it presented a problem since two managers can’t be employed simultaneously.
According to Rey’s agreement, he modified his resignation date as town manager for January 31, and agreed to waive his right to a severance package currently stipulated in his current agreement .
In exchange, Rey serves as a consultant until March 31, 2019.
In their final action of the night, lawmakers voted Parks and Recreation Director Tony Lopez interim town manager for one day for February 1.
