Parents seeking to save money on school supplies can take advantage of the Florida sales tax holiday. It runs from Aug. 1 to Aug. 31 and includes the following items:
• Personal computers or computer-related accessories bought for non-commercial use, costing $1,500 or less which includes calculators; desktop computers; electronic book readers; laptops; tablets and tower computers. Personal computer accessories include keyboards; mice; modems; monitors; nonrecreational software; personal digital assistants and routers. Cell phones, software, video game consoles or other recreational items are not included.
• Wallets and bags with a sales price of $100 or less per item, including backpacks; diaper bags; fanny packs and handbags. Briefcases, suitcases and garment bags are excluded.
• School supplies costing $50 or less per item includes binders; cellophane tape; compasses; composition books; computer disks; construction papers; crayons; erasers; folders; glue or paste; legal pads; lunch boxes; markers; notebooks; notebook filler paper; pencils; pens; poster board; poster paper; protractors; rulers; scissors; staplers and staples.
• Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles costing $30 or less: flashcards or other learning cards; interactive or electronic books and toys that teach reading or math skills; matching or other memory games; puzzle books and search-and-find books and stacking or nesting blocks or sets.
• Clothing, footwear and accessories that are $100 or less, including shirts, pants, dresses, skirts, shorts and other apparel; shoes, boots, sandals and other footwear and belts, hats, gloves and scarves.
