U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Doral, awarded Congressional Veteran Commendations to U.S. Army veterans Maj. William E. Knickerbocker and Sgt. Alvaro Hernandez. Knickerbocker is a member of the Miami Lakes Veterans Committee and was the 2022 Grand Marshal for the Veterans Day Parade. He and Hernandez both belong to the American Legion Post 144. The Post Commander Gary Cardenas nominated the former soldiers for the honor, which they received in November.

The commendations to the Hialeah residents recognize “wartime sacrifices and peacetime community involvement,” Diaz-Balart’s office said.

Knickerbocker and Hernandez will be interviewed for the Library of Congress as part of the Veterans History Project.
