Ryan Campos, a 10th grade-student at Barbara Goleman Senior High, served as Miami Lakes honorary Mayor for a Day on June 24 at Town Hall. He was selected by Mayor Michael Pizzi for his various engagements in community service including as a member of the Miami Lakes Youth Center Council. Campos checked out the Mayor’s chair on the dais and then visited the Mayor’s office.

“The first thing I did was visit the Police Department and I was able to see all of their equipment and even sat inside a Police car to use the siren,” said Campos.

“Then I visited the Town Manager’s office and I learned about what exactly they do and how it affects the community. After that I visited with the IT staff and saw the computer system that runs all the technology in Town Hall.

“The last place I visited was the Building Department where I learned that you need a permit to complete almost any construction project at your home.

“I thought it was an amazing experience and I hope I can come back again,” Campos said. “Everything that I learned today was interesting and I hope I can use this knowledge in the future.”

Campos is the grandson of the late Sergio Campos, who was president of the Loch Ness Homeowners Association for many years.
