Republican lawmakers State Senator Manny Diaz Jr., House Speaker Jose Olivia of Miami Lakes and Lt. Governor Jeanette Nunez, attended the inauguration of Ron DeSantis, who became Florida’s 46th governor.
Skipping the traditional parade in his honor, DeSantis went right to work at the Florida State Capitol Building, where Diaz, Olivia and Nunez listened to his plans as he addressed the legislative leadership and highlighted his agenda for work that needs to be done as soon as possible, and his plans for the upcoming Legislative Session, which starts in March.
Olivia and Senate President Bill Galvano told reporters they both were optimistic about finding common ground with the new governor on issues like heath care costs, the environment, education and the economy. They also praised DeSantis for selecting Nunez as his Lt. governor.
“We’re all singing from the same hymn book,” Olivia said.
