The Miami-Dade County School Board recently honored former Florida Senator Rene Garcia with a proclamation during its regular meeting for his leadership in sponsoring legislation to help improve public schools and students’ quality of education.
Garcia was term-limited this year and he previously served as a state representative.
During his time in Tallahassee, Garcia, a Republican, sponsored education bills including finding funding for tutoring for students at public and private schools, and helping cash-strapped school districts, cities, and counties in obtaining greater funding during economic times.
“The School Board recognizing Florida State Senator Rene Garcia for being a tireless advocate for children in our community and for the state of Florida,” said Miami-Dade School Board chairwoman Perla Tabares Hantman.
