Government Thursday, August 18, 2016

Do you have a child, or children, who want to go to college, but don’t think you can afford it? Did you know significant changes have been made to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (F.A.F.S.A.) process? Did you know you can now apply beginning October 1?

Miami Lakes will host its first ever F.A.F.S.A. 101 Workshop at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, at the town’s Youth Center, 6075 Miami Lakes Drive East. F.A.F.S.A., a part of the U.S. Department of Education, is the largest provider of student financial aid in the nation, helping make college education possible for everyone.

Parents and students can hear from Gloria Guzman, senior Economic and Financial Education Specialist for the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta-Miami Branch, who will provide information on investing in what’s next after high school.

The workshop will explain and provide direction on completing the F.A.F.S.A., comparing school costs, and obtaining financial aid. Attendees will receive a workbook to assist with career exploration.

Seating is limited and registration is required. For more information, or to register, contact Jeremy Bajdaun at thespot@miamilakes-fl.gov, or call 305-819-7768.
