On Sept. 13, the town council appointed eight volunteers to six of the Town of Miami Lakes committees. The group was acknowledged during a town council meeting. There are a dozen committees in town whose members work to improve the quality of life in Miami Lakes. They focus on helping people with special needs; veterans; elders and work on causes such as education; public safety and mental health.

In the back row from left are Councilman Tony Fernandez; Councilman Luis Collazo; Vice Mayor Jeff Rodriguez and Councilman Josh Dieguez.

In front from left are Ruth Queiro, who joined the Cultural Affairs Committee; Roman Garcia, Sports Hall of Fame; Javier Ley-Soto, Neighborhood Improvement Committee; Juan Estrada, Neighborhood Improvement Committee; Matthew Casamayor, Economic Development Committee; Leonardo Ladeira, Youth Activities Task Force and Tico Casamayor, Matthew’s father and owner of AC Graphics. Unable to attend were Elizabeth Turner, joining the Cultural Affairs Committee, and John Estrella, who is joining the Blasting Advisory Board and the Neighborhood Improvement Committee, the town said.
