Perla Tabares Hantman’s endorsement of National Bike-to-School Day took place May 12 in coordination with the League of American Bicyclists' National Bike Month. 
Thousands of local events in 49 states and the District of Columbia were organized to encourage children to safely bicycle or walk to school. The event builds on the popularity of Walk to School Day, which is celebrated around the world each October.
After beating Miami Jackson to win the district championship for the third consecutive season, Barbara Goleman’s softball team fell to American Heritage, 15-0, in a regional 16-6A quarterfinal game that eliminated the Gators from the postseason. The Gators, who finished the season 20-10, were led by a group of star players, including pitcher and shortstop Natalie Costero, who was named Herff Jones Top Female Scholar Athlete for 2017....
Florida International University freshman pitcher Shannon Saile struck out nine while throwing her 23rd complete game of the season in a 4-1 victory over Marshall last week.
