  John Collins, a former U.S. Marine, a Miami-Dade police officer, and the husband of former Miami Lakes Councilmember Mary Collins has died. Collins died on March 27 at the age of 82. He joined the Marines following his high school graduation and was honorably discharged. He then joined the Miami-Dade police department and retired after 30 years on the force.   The Miami Lakes Optimist Club will be holding registration for its Summer basketball league on consecutive Saturdays, April 16, 23 and 30, at Miami Lakes Optimist Park.
