Miami Lakes residents Clarisell and Luis Collazo announced the birth of their son, Lucas Luis Collazo. He arrived on Wednesday, January 21, at South Miami Hospital, weighing 6 pounds, 11 ounces, and measuring 19 3/4 inches in length. Maternal grandparents are Clara and Rafael (decease) De Cardenas. Paternal grandparents are Alina and Luis (deceased) Collazo.

Michelle Romero, 19, a lifelong Miami Lakes resident and former Miami Lakes Educational Center student, passed away on Monday, April 13, following surgical complications as a result of her autoimmune disorder, Lupus. Romero was a student at Florida International University majoring in accounting, and was known as a fiery presence. The Bob Graham Education Center (BGEC) cheerleaders participated in the Cheerleaders of America (COA) Ultimate International Championship held in Orlando on April 3-4.
